What the team does
The team focuses on analytics enablement: it designs analytics-ready data models and a trusted semantic layer that standardises business metrics, so dashboards and reports across the bank use the same definitions. You work mainly in Databricks and Snowflake, with SQL as your main language and Python when needed.
What you will do
- Lead the building of analytics data models, dimensional or domain-oriented, that suit reporting, business intelligence and self-service use
- Design and maintain the semantic layer: standard metrics, dimensions, entities and business definitions
- Turn stakeholder requirements into clear deliverables such as entities, grains, metric definitions and acceptance criteria
- Write transformations mainly in SQL, using Python for complex logic, automation or checks
- Put data-quality controls in place: tests, reconciliations and anomaly checks on business-critical metrics
- Tune model performance and cost in Snowflake and Databricks
- Work with upstream teams to understand source systems, including semi-structured and non-relational data
- Set modelling standards for naming, documentation, lineage, metric governance and change management
- Document curated datasets and guide users so they adopt the semantic layer correctly
What you need
- Education and experience: a Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Operations Research or a related field plus 3 years in this kind of work, or a Bachelor's degree in those fields plus 5 years
- Advanced SQL: complex joins, performance tuning and incremental logic
- Strong data modelling: facts and dimensions, grains, conformed dimensions, slowly changing dimensions and metric design
- Proven experience building or running a semantic layer or metrics framework
- Comfort with semi-structured data such as JSON and non-relational sources
- Awareness of data governance: role-based access, classification, lineage and audit needs
- Working experience with Snowflake and/or Databricks, and practical Python
- Good stakeholder skills, careful documentation and a focus on correct data
Preferred: testing and documentation experience, familiarity with BI tools such as Tableau, Sigma or Looker concepts, and knowledge of orchestration and monitoring tools such as Airflow, Dagster or Azure Data Factory.
