TCS Hiring Process for Freshers: NQT, Ninja, Digital and Prime

Overview
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is one of the largest private-sector employers of engineering and science graduates in India. It hires through campus drives and through off-campus drives that are open to anyone who meets the eligibility rules in the announcement. Fresher roles are commonly grouped into tracks, often described as Ninja, Digital and Prime, which differ in the skills tested and the kind of projects you are placed on.
The usual stages
Candidates commonly report this flow:
- Registration and eligibility check on the official TCS careers or TCS iON portal. Academic criteria (percentage or CGPA, backlog limits, gap rules) are listed in each announcement.
- TCS NQT (National Qualifier Test), an online proctored test. A foundation part is commonly described as covering numerical ability, verbal ability and reasoning, and a further, more advanced part is described as covering advanced reasoning and coding for higher tracks. Your scores influence which track you are considered for.
- Technical interview, where you discuss your resume, projects, core subjects and sometimes write a small program.
- Managerial and HR interview, which is often combined with the technical discussion. Expect questions on communication, flexibility, relocation, shifts and your goals.
- Offer and onboarding documents, followed by joining.
The number of sections, the time limits and whether a coding part is mandatory have changed between cycles, so read your own invitation carefully.
What each stage tests
- Aptitude sections: speed and accuracy in percentages, ratios, time and work, number series, reading comprehension, grammar and logical puzzles. Practice with a timer; see our aptitude test preparation guide.
- Coding part (where applicable): easy-to-medium problems on arrays, strings and basic logic, in languages such as C, C++, Java or Python.
- Technical interview: fundamentals of your chosen language, OOP, DBMS and SQL, basic data structures, operating system concepts and every line of your resume (especially final-year projects).
- HR round: honesty, clarity and attitude. Be ready for "Why TCS?", "Are you willing to relocate?" and "Tell me about yourself".
How to prepare in four weeks
Week 1: aptitude foundations. Revise the basic quantitative formulas, learn shortcuts and take a timed sectional test every day.
Week 2: verbal and reasoning. Practise reading comprehension, sentence correction and logic sets. Read a short English article daily.
Week 3: coding. Solve easy problems on strings, arrays, searching and sorting, and write clean code by hand. Use the DSA study plan for structure.
Week 4: interviews. Revise core CS subjects, prepare to explain each project, and practise answers from the HR interview guide.
Tips that help
- Apply through the official portal only. TCS does not ask candidates for money; see job scams and how to stay safe.
- Keep your resume to one page and list only what you can explain (fresher resume guide).
- If you are aiming for a higher track, treat the advanced and coding sections seriously rather than relying only on aptitude.
- Keep your documents ready: marksheets, ID proof and a clear photo for verification.
Common mistakes
- Skipping the mock tests and discovering the interface on exam day
- Putting skills on the resume you cannot discuss
- Poor internet or a noisy room during a proctored test
- Being vague about why you want to join a services company; a clear, honest answer helps

What the company's own pages say (checked 28 October 2026)
Confirmed on the TCS All India NQT hiring page (for the 2024, 2025 and 2026 batches), as shown in search results for that page. The page itself blocked our automated check, so read it directly before relying on the numbers.
- The NQT is one integrated test. The Foundation part covers numerical, verbal and reasoning ability (about 75 minutes). The Advanced part covers quantitative ability, reasoning and advanced coding (about 115 minutes).
- Taking the Advanced part is described as mandatory for Digital and Prime offers. Results decide whether you are interviewed for Prime, Digital or Ninja.
- Eligibility summary for full-time candidates: 60% throughout academics, no pending backlogs, an education gap of at most 24 months, age 18 to 28. Criteria change by batch.
- TCS also publishes separate hiring pages for other programs, such as an Atlas program and MBA hiring.
Not confirmed: exact interview formats and pay figures for each track. Older TCS pages describe a shorter NQT, so formats change between cycles.
Latest changes (2025–2026)
Updated 28 October 2026.
- The 2026 cycle: TCS's official NQT page covered the 2024, 2025 and 2026 batches. Registration opened on 18 February 2026 and tests ran from 10 March 2026 at TCS iON centres. We found no published notice for the 2027 batch yet, so check tcs.com/careers/india.
- Other entry routes listed on TCS pages include Atlas, Launchpad (preparation for the NQT), a BSc program and MBA hiring.
- Intake: news coverage of the September 2026 quarter reports about 10,000 graduates hired in the quarter and about 24,000 in the first half, with TCS saying future hiring will follow demand, particularly for AI capabilities.
- Tip: because the Advanced section decides Digital and Prime interviews, prepare coding properly and practise without AI help.

Please note: hiring processes change between campuses, drives and years, and companies update their rounds without notice. This guide describes the commonly reported structure so you know what to expect and how to prepare.
